Compassionate Veterinary Care for Your Four-Legged Family Members

Our hospital in Barling, AR is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, skilled doctors, and registered veterinary technicians to ensure excellence in service. At River Valley Animal Hospital, we stress the importance of preventative care and will provide compassionate care and quality that your pet companions deserve.

Wellness Exams
From the first visit and throughout their entire life, we’ll be there to provide the absolute best care for your pet. Our wellness care measures can maximize the fullness of that life both in terms of what your pet can do and for how long. Annual physical exams are important! Many of our younger patients have annual exams, but for aging pets or those who have medical conditions, we recommend exams every six months.
Nutrition

An estimated 59% of cats and 54% of dogs in the United States are overweight or obese. Good nutrition and weight management are key to your pet’s overall health. These healthy habits are created at a young age for your pet, and it’s up to you to help them maintain these habits. Through a good diet and proper exercise, you greatly increase your pet’s chance at a long, healthy life.

Surgery

We provide surgical options in a clean and safe environment. Most importantly, our veterinary team can closely track each animal’s vital condition during surgery.

Soft tissue surgery is a large subject, as it comprises any surgery that is not orthopedic. Procedures can range from simple cyst removals to complex and involved operations.Areas covered include ear, nose, and throat; cardiothoracic; hepatic; gastrointestinal; urogenital; skin reconstructive; and oncological surgeries

Diagnostic Imaging

Radiology

Another tool in our diagnostic arsenal is radiology. A radiograph (X-ray) is a type of photograph that looks inside the body and reveals information that may not be discernible from the outside. Radiography can be used to evaluate your pet’s internal organs like the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs, as well as bones. When it comes to accurately diagnosing your pet, radiology can be an extremely valuable tool in our diagnostic arsenal.

Digital X-rays are routinely used to diagnose and examine broken bones, obstructions, arthritis, masses, and tumors. We use digital X-rays to also confirm pregnancies or detect ingested objects.

Ultrasounds

Ultrasonography, or ultrasound, is a diagnostic imaging technique similar to radiography (X-rays) and is often used in conjunction with radiography and other diagnostics. It allows us to visualize certain organs very thoroughly, including the heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, bladder, spleen, and intestines. It can also be useful to detect and monitor pregnancy. We work closely with specialists – people who have dedicated their entire lives to imaging – so you get the most out of this fantastic diagnostic tool.

Critical Care

We understand that not every visit to the vet is a happy one. If your furry friend is sick, our team will be here to provide care and comfort. With our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and in-house pharmacy, we’ll get your companion back into tip-top shape in no time! We provide hospitalization and critical care for the patients this is necessary for.

Vaccinations

While dogs and cats have some of the same vaccinations like rabies and distemper, they also have different vaccination needs based on the diseases that can affect their species. Our veterinarians will work with you to set up a comprehensive, personalized vaccination schedule to protect your pet.

Dental Care

Did you know that poor oral health can lead to infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart?

Just as it’s important for you to see a dentist regularly, it’s important for dogs and cats as well. Your pet’s oral health is directly connected to their overall health. Signs of dental disease include bad breath, loose, broken or missing teeth, yellow or brown teeth, red, inflamed or bleeding gums, difficulty or pain when chewing, pawing at the mouth, and excessive drooling. If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to help.

We are proud that we have the most up-to-date equipment to treat dental disease, including digital dental X-rays. This allows us to detect if there is any disease beneath the gum line that we would not be able to see otherwise. We are often able to see undetected abscesses, broken teeth, resorbed roots, retained roots, and more thanks to dental radiographs.

In-House Laboratory

We are able to process a wide array of diagnostic laboratory tests with our in-house laboratory.

Our tests include things like:

  • Blood Tests
  • Urine Tests
  • Fecal Tests
  • Parasite Tests
  • Digital X-rays
  • Ultrasonography
  • …and more!

We utilize these tests to assess your pet’s overall well-being. This helps us detect the trouble brewing in the internal organs by providing important clues to disease.

End of Life Services

When it is time to say goodbye, we help your beloved pet to cross the rainbow bridge with kindness and compassion. Empathy, openness, non-judgementalism, and compassion are at the very heart of what we do. We tailor our approach to best suit each individual family and situation.

Equine and Livestock Services
We understand that it is not always possible to bring your pet to our clinic. That is why we offer house and farm calls to see animals at your home.

There are many challenges in caring for an animal that cannot be moved from their location for one reason or another. Please let us know of any specific requests or conditions that will require special attention. We promise to communicate with you throughout the process to make sure it goes smoothly for you and your animal.
