Why is your pet’s dental care so important?
Did you know that poor oral health can lead to infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart?
Just as it’s important for you to see a dentist regularly, it’s important for dogs and cats as well. Your pet’s oral health is directly connected to their overall health. Signs of dental disease include bad breath, loose, broken or missing teeth, yellow or brown teeth, red, inflamed or bleeding gums, difficulty or pain when chewing, pawing at the mouth, and excessive drooling. If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to help.
We are proud that we have the most up-to-date equipment to treat dental disease, including digital dental X-rays. This allows us to detect if there is any disease beneath the gum line that we would not be able to see otherwise. We are often able to see undetected abscesses, broken teeth, resorbed roots, retained roots, and more thanks to dental radiographs.
Dental Procedures
Veterinary dentistry is a branch of veterinary medicine that focuses on the oral health of animals, including cats, dogs, and other small animals. A veterinary dentist is a veterinarian who has received additional training and education in the diagnosis and treatment of dental and oral conditions in animals. They are responsible for the overall oral care and well-being of pets, including teeth cleaning, extractions, and other procedures.
Preventive Care
In addition to preventive care, veterinary dentistry includes restorative care, such as fillings, crowns, and extractions. These procedures are often necessary when a dental disease has progressed and cannot be treated with cleaning alone.
It’s important to note that dental procedures on animals may require general anesthesia, so it’s crucial to have a veterinarian with experience in anesthesia and pain management to supervise the procedure to ensure the animal’s safety.
