Rachel South, DVM
Dr. Rachel South is an owner of River Valley Animal Hospital. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with her DVM degree in 2013 and completed her clinical year of the program at Oklahoma State University. Dr. South received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Loyola University Maryland. Dr. South is originally from Bel Air, Maryland. While attending Ross University in St. Kitts, West Indies, she met Dr. Trevor South. Upon completion of her DVM degree she moved to Arkansas where Trevor was already practicing.
Upon graduation Dr. South worked in an emergency practice while doing relief work for several day practices in NWA as well. Dr. South genuinely enjoys emergency and critical care medicine, falling in love with the fast-paced specialty while she was a veterinary technician in a busy 24-hour emergency practice in Maryland before attending veterinary school. Dr. South’s other interest include soft tissue surgery and small animal internal medicine.
Dr. Rachel is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
In her free time, Dr. South enjoys riding her horse JJ, traveling and trout fishing with Dr. Trevor South. She also enjoys spending time with her German Shorthair Pointer named Blake and cat named Riley. Dr. South is eager to provide compassionate veterinary care to the area!
Trevor South, DVM
Dr. Trevor South is an owner of River Valley Animal Hospital. He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with his DVM degree in 2011 and completed his clinical year of the program at Iowa State University. Dr. South received his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University. Dr. South is a Greenwood, Arkansas native graduating from Greenwood High School in 2003. While attending Ross University in St. Kitts, West Indies Trevor met his wife Dr. Rachel South and they decided to build a life and a practice in Arkansas.
Since graduation, Dr. South has worked in mixed and small animal practices as well as working multiple emergency clinic shifts. Prior to building River Valley Animal Hospital, Dr. South had started his own successful ambulatory veterinary practice which he plans to combine with his new practice. His veterinary interests include dentistry, soft tissue surgery, equine lameness and herd health.
Dr. Trevor is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
In his free time Dr. South enjoys taking care of his cattle, trout fishing and splitting his time between watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Dallas Cowboys! Dr. South is excited to have the opportunity to offer the Fort Chaffee area and surrounding communities high quality medicine and care.
Kalah Tipton, DVM
Dr. Kalah Tipton is an associate veterinarian at River Valley Animal Hospital. She completed her associate’s degree in the honors program at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, OK, and her bachelor’s and doctorate degrees at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. She is originally from Eufaula, OK.
Upon graduation from veterinary school in 2015, she began working in small animal general practice in southeast Oklahoma. Prior to and during veterinary school, she worked as an assistant in a variety of different veterinary settings across Oklahoma including small animal general practice, shelter animal caretaker, and multiple mixed animal general practices. Her interests include preventative medicine and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Kalah Tipton is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association, Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Heartworm Society.
In her free time, Dr. Tipton enjoys time spent with her husband Randy and son Cody. They have a small farm in Oklahoma and raise showpigs. They have two rescue dogs named Rylan and Janey and three cats named Hazel, Punkin, and Patch. Dr. Tipton is excited to join the team here at River Valley Animal Hospital and looks forward to developing new relationships with new clients and their pets.
Jessi is our Director of Client Services and Event Coordinator. She has had a lifelong love of animals and is a rescue advocate. She began her animal career at Sea World and has volunteered and worked at shelters and veterinary clinics for almost two decades. She loves her job at RVAH as it allows her to help animals and their people.
Jessi shares her life with four rescue dogs; a deaf American Pit Bull Terrier named Sinatra, a deaf Staffordshire Terrier named Karloff, a Pocket Bully named Elvira, and an American Bully named Lugosi.
She has several certifications including Hill’s Nutritional Advocate, ASPCA Field Investigation and Response, ASPCA Combating Dog Fighting and Class IV Therapeutic Laser.
When not at work or playing with her dogs she enjoys naps, adding to her record collection, travelling, advertising design, reading, documentaries and being active with the non-profit she founded-River Valley Pet Pantry.
Heather is one of our Lead Veterinary Nurses.
She has worked as a Veterinary Nurse for nearly 10 years and has had a lifelong love for animals, especially horses. That love inspired her to run with the Old Fort Days Dandies during high school. After high school she ran with another quadrille called the 4:13 Riders for several years. Although she doesn’t rodeo anymore, she still has horses, including her quadrille horses Drifter and Dirty.
Heather is extremely supportive of rescue/adoption and especially spaying/neutering.
She is obsessed with corgis, thanks to a little dog named Bitty; and now has 4 corgis and a corgi mix-all rescues of course.
In her free time she likes to spend time with her husband, JoNate, and daughter, Kaylie Jane. She enjoys gardening, driving around in the country, glitter and collecting Care Bears.
Kelsey is one of our Lead Veterinary Nurses. She graduated in the top of her class from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in 2014. She has a degree in Applied Science of Surgical Technology and is a Certified Surgical Technologist. She is an active member of the Arkansas State Assembly for Surgical Technologists as well. While surgery is her passion, she love visiting with and caring for her patients at RVAH; whether they aren’t feeling so great or just in for a wellness exam. She spends her free time with her husband, their three rescue pit bulls and loves to crochet.
Brittney is one of our Veterinary Nurses haling from Van Buren Arkansas, where she attended Van Buren High School. She received her first bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. She is currently getting her second bachelor’s in animal science from the University of Arkansas and will graduate in December. She has applied to veterinary school and is hoping to attend in the fall. She shares her life with her boyfriend and two dogs named Storm and Dozer.
Sophia is one of our Veterinary Nurses and is Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) that joined our team in July 2017. She graduated from Petra Allied and did her internship with us at River Valley Animal Hospital. She is originally from Pueblo, Colorado but moved to Fort smith, Arkansas in 2015. She is always eager to learn more about animal emergency or critical situations.
For as long as she can remember she has had a passion working with small and large animals. While in Colorado, she volunteered at her local animal shelter and helped feed and walk the dogs and socialize cats. She has a 1 1/2 yr old mixed breed dog named Loki that she adopted from Sebastian County Humane Society and a 6 yr old kitty named Popoki. She has plans to go back to school and become a veterinarian!
